Prescription Eye Protection in the Workplace

The important role of vision at work in making critical and timely decisions means that businesses must ensure all workers have the best possible vision whilst on the job. With 6 in 10 people requiring vision correction and workers 50% more likely to have an accident at work with uncorrected vision, it is important that Eye Protection is not only provided in the form of Safety Glasses & Safety Goggles, but also Prescription Safety Glasses, Prescription Safety Goggles & Prescription Full Face Respirators. At Boost Safety & Workwear, we supply employers and employees across Australia and the Globe with Prescription Safety Glasses so workers requiring optical correction have the same level of Eye Protection as their co-workers.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS: Bolle & Eyres prescription lenses can be supplied with an Anti-fog coating. This coating is highly recommended in healthcare settings, especially when a face mask is being worn. See Healthcare & Medical Prescription Safety Glasses for popular models.

Prescription Safety Glasses are required to comply with Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS 1337.6 which specifies the minimum requirements for prescription eye protectors for both low and medium impact. Prescription Safety Glasses must also meet the same prescription requirements and tolerances as any other prescription spectacles as set out in AS/ NZS 21987. The Australian Safety Standard AS/NZS 1337.6 requires Prescription Safety Glasses to meet a higher standard of impact resistance when compared to regular spectacles or sunglasses. Prescription Safety Glasses Lenses

                    Lens Types

Prescription Safety Glasses can be supplied with single vision lenses, multifocal lenses and bifocal lenses. The type of lens used depends on the wearer’s prescription and what the Prescription Safety Glasses will be used for.

                    • Single Vision: Can be used for reading, computer use or distance vision.
                    • Multifocal: Multifocal lenses enable objects at more than one distance to be brought into focus. They are able to do this by having different sections within the same lens devoted to different visual tasks. For wearers requiring optical correction at different distances, multifocal lenses can assist with visual clarity at reading, intermediate and distance intervals.
                    • Bifocals: Bifocal lenses have two distinct segments, most commonly an upper segment for seeing into the distance and a lower segment for reading and other close tasks. The typical shape for the lower portion is a sideways ‘D’.

                    Lens Tints

Prescription Safety Glasses are supplied with clear untinted lenses as standard. Lenses can be tailored with tinted lenses to suit the wearer’s working environment and to increase the wearer’s comfort, vision and protection. QUICK TIP: For workers working both indoors and outdoors, Photochromic lenses which transition from clear to grey are a great option. Some workers opt for two pairs of Prescription Safety Glasses, one clear pair for indoors and a second Polarised pair for outdoors.

                    • Clear lenses: Most versatile type of prescription safety lenses as they can be used indoors, outdoors and in low light conditions. For extended periods outdoors, sunglass tinted lenses should be used.
                    • Sunglasses lenses: Are optimal for outdoor environments to reduce the the discomfort and disabling effects of bright light.
                    • Polarised lenses: Cut out glare and increase vision quality outdoors by reducing visual noise. Are ideal for environments where there is a high degree of bright sunlight and glare.
                    • Photochromic lenses: Utilise variable tint technology designed to quickly adapt from clear indoors to tinted outdoors. A great option for workers working both indoors and outdoors who want a single pair of Prescription Safety Glasses.
